Learn Hangul Online #4 — Batchim (Final Consonants)
Batchim simplifies to 7 base sounds. Add one easy rule—liaison—and real signs/menus start to click.
We’ll map each final shape to a base sound (k·n·t·l·m·p·ng), apply carry-over between blocks, and read real words in 2–5 minutes.
받침을 7개 기본 소리로 연결하고, 모음으로 시작하면 연음되는 규칙을 적용해 실제 단어를 읽어봅니다.

1) Batchim Basics — 7 Coda Sounds
Final consonants “simplify” to these outputs:
- ㄱ/ㅋ/ㄲ → k (박 bak, 책 chaek)
- ㄴ → n (산 san)
- ㄷ/ㅅ/ㅈ/ㅊ/ㅌ/ㅎ → t (옷 ot, 꽃 kkot)
- ㄹ → l (별 byeol)
- ㅁ → m (밤 bam)
- ㅂ/ㅍ → p (밥 bap)
- ㅇ → ng (강 gang)
Don’t chase perfect English sounds. 영어 소리와 1:1 대응보다 “모양 → 기본 소리” 연결이 먼저예요.
2) Liaison (연음) Made Easy
When the next block starts with a vowel (often written with initial ㅇ), the final consonant carries over:
- 밥 + 이 → 바비 (ba-bi)
- 옷 + 이 → 오시/오치 느낌 (o-si / o-chi)
- 강 + 에 → 가응에 느낌 (ga-ŋe)
Note: Double finals like 읽/앉 are advanced; master the 7 basics first. 겹받침은 나중에 천천히.
