🎯 Learning Goal
- Recognize the 7 basic batchim outputs: k·n·t·l·m·p·ng
- Use easy liaison (연음): when the next block starts with a vowel, the final consonant carries over.
📑 Table of Contents
1) Batchim Basics — 7 Coda Sounds
In the final position, many consonants “simplify” to 7 sounds:
- ㄱ → k (as in 박 bak)
- ㄴ → n (산 san)
- ㄷ → t (옷 ot)
- ㄹ → l (별 byeol)
- ㅁ → m (밤 bam)
- ㅂ → p (밥 bap)
- ㅇ → ng (강 gang)
Don’t chase “perfect” English equivalents—just link each final shape to these 7 sounds.
2) Liaison (연음) Made Easy
When the next block starts with a vowel, the final consonant “moves” forward:
Tip: If the next block begins with ㅇ (silent initial), that’s your cue—carry the final consonant over.
Note: Double-final (e.g., 읽, 앉) rules are advanced. For now, focus on the 7 basics + liaison.
3) Read Real Words (Menus & Signs)
Try first; then reveal reading + meaning.

밥 — bap — cooked rice/meal김밥
김밥 — gimbap — gimbap (kimbap)옷가게
옷가게 — ot-gage but sounds like od-ga-ge (liaison) — clothing store물병
물병 — mul-byeong → mul-byong — water bottle책
책 — chaek — book별
별 — byeol — star4) Quick Quiz (Reveal)
Final sound of 옷 is? (s, t, or d)
Answer: t (옷 → ot)Liaison: 밥 + 이 sounds like?
Answer: 바비 (ba-bi)Final sound of 강 is?
Answer: ng (gang)✅ Your Turn: 3 Action Tasks (CTA)
- 7-sound drill (3 min). Point to each final and say its base sound: p·n·t·l·m·p·ng.
- Liaison chain (2 min). Make 3 pairs and read fast → 밥+이, 꽃+이, 별+이. Then swap to 밥+을, 옷+을 and notice the carry-over.
- Record 20 seconds. Listen once; mark the hardest word.

👩🏫 Teacher’s Tips
Touch the last letter with your pen and say its base sound quietly (k/n/t/l/m/p/ng). Then read the word smoothly. This “touch & say” trick locks the pattern.
💡 Did You Know?
Many Korean child readers also learn final consonants using the same 7-sound set. Mastering just these covers a huge portion of everyday words.
