1. The Glamorous Pre-Wedding Photoshoot

Engagement photos are a serious business in Korea! Known as 스튜디오 촬영 (Studio shooting), couples spend a full day changing into multiple wedding gowns and tuxedos. These photos are later displayed on huge canvases at the wedding hall.

Hoon's Professional Insight: Many couples also opt for Hanbok (한복) shots during these sessions to honor their heritage. The photography technology in Seoul is considered world-class, attracting couples from all over Asia!

2. Respecting Tradition: Paebaek & Ham

  • 🎎 함들이 (Ham): The groom's family delivers a box of gifts to the bride's house. Traditionally, it was a loud, joyous event with friends shouting in the neighborhood!
  • 🎎 폐백 (Paebaek): A post-ceremony ritual where the couple bows to parents. Parents throw dates and chestnuts at the couple to wish for many children and prosperity.

🗣 Essential Wedding Vocabulary

  • 🤵 신랑 (Sin-rang): Groom
  • 👰 신부 (Sin-bu): Bride
  • 💍 결혼 (Gyeol-hon): Marriage
  • 🏛 예식장 (Ye-sik-jang): Wedding Hall
  • 🥂 청첩장 (Cheong-cheop-jang): Wedding Invitation

💡 Did You Know? The Stress Factor

A recent survey showed that 68% of Korean couples found the pre-wedding photoshoot more stressful than the actual wedding! From skincare treatments to "couple rings," the preparation starts months in advance.
