👩‍🏫 Teacher’s Tips

When asking for directions or help, use polite endings like “-요” to sound respectful. Koreans appreciate polite speech, especially from foreigners. If you’re unsure, you can always start with “실례합니다” (Excuse me) before asking your question.

🌀 Say What?

In casual conversation, you might hear “어디에요?” shortened to “어디예요?” or even just “어디요?” among friends. Shortened phrases are common in everyday speech.

📌 Did You Know?

Public restrooms in Korea are generally free to use, and you can find them in most subway stations, department stores, and public buildings. However, some smaller cafés or shops may restrict them to customers only.

📝 It’s Your Turn

  • Practice asking for directions to the nearest subway station.
  • Order a meal at a Korean restaurant using at least 3 of today’s phrases.
  • Role-play an emergency situation with a friend using the phrases above.
