🎯 Learning Goal
- Understand what Hangul is and why it’s beginner-friendly.
- Learn how syllable blocks are built from letters.
- 한글의 구조(자모 + 음절 블록)를 이해하고 쉬운 낱말을 읽어보기.
📑 Table of Contents
1) What Is Hangul?
Hangul is the Korean writing system. It’s an alphabet, but letters are grouped into syllable blocks—like LEGO. Once you learn a few rules, reading becomes logical and fast.
한글은 한국어 문자 체계이며, 글자가 음절 블록으로 모여 있어 규칙을 익히면 빠르고 논리적으로 읽을 수 있습니다.
- Phonetic: letters map closely to sounds.
- Compact: few shapes combine into thousands of words.
- One block ≈ one syllable: e.g., 가, 고, 공.
2) How Syllable Blocks Work
Formula: (Consonant + Vowel) [+ (Final Consonant)]
- 가 = ㄱ (g/k) + ㅏ (a) → ga
- 고 = ㄱ (g/k) + ㅗ (o) → go
- 공 = ㄱ (g/k) + ㅗ (o) + ㅇ (ng) → gong
Tip: Vowel-initial syllables use the silent holder ㅇ at the start: 아 (a), 이 (i).
3) Meet Your First Vowels
Start with these 10. (Romanization is approximate.)
- ㅏ = a (father) → 아
- ㅑ = ya → 야
- ㅓ = eo (uh) → 어
- ㅕ = yeo → 여
- ㅗ = o (oh) → 오
- ㅛ = yo → 요
- ㅜ = u (oo) → 우
- ㅠ = yu → 유
- ㅡ = eu (central) → 으
- ㅣ = i (ee) → 이
Practice: Read aloud: 아, 어, 오, 우, 으, 이 → then add ㄱ: 가, 거, 고, 구, 그, 기.

👩🏫 Teacher’s Tips
Read out loud in short chunks. Don’t chase every rule first—build confidence by reading easy words daily (2–3 minutes).
매일 2–3분이라도 소리 내어 읽어 보세요. 규칙을 모두 외우기보다 쉬운 단어로 자신감을 쌓는 것이 중요합니다.
