🎧 TOPIK Starter Series — Part 4: Listening Traps & Keyword Hacks
You don’t need every word—just the pivot word.
This guide shows how to catch contrast markers, numbers/time shifts, and speaker intent—so you answer correctly even when vocabulary is missing.
모든 단어를 들을 필요는 없습니다. 반전 신호(하지만/그러나), 숫자·시간 변화, 의도 표현만 잡아도 정답에 도달합니다.
Quick note: Both TOPIK I & II include Listening. Read choices first, predict answer type, then listen for pivots.
시험에서는 보기 미리 훑기 → 예상 정답 유형 설정 → 반전 지점 포착 순서로 접근하세요.
1) Contrast Markers = Answer Flips
Listen for: 하지만, 그런데, 그래도, 그러나, 반면에.
“We planned to go outside, but it started raining.” → decision flips after but.
“오늘 밖에 나가려고 했어요. 하지만 비가 와서 영화를 보기로 했어요.” → 하지만 뒤가 정답 단서.
- If choices split A/B (go / not go), choose the clause after the contrast marker.
- Mark contrast with a quick “↺” on your paper to focus ears at that moment.
2) Numbers & Time Pivots (Dates, Counters, Changes)
Common traps: 다음 주 / 이번 주 / 지난달, ~부터 ~까지, ~ 후에, quantity changes.
숫자·시간은 바뀌는 지점이 정답 단서입니다. 예) “세 시에 만나요” → “하지만 일이 생겨서 네 시로 미룰게요”.
Quick symbols: time(🕒), price(₩), count(#), place(📍). Note only the final value you hear.
3) Intent Clues (Speech Acts)
- Request/Offer: “…(으)실래요?”, “-(으)ㄹ게요” → likely action/next step.
- Notice/Policy: “공지/안내/변경/취소/모집” → main purpose = inform / change / recruit.
- Apology & Fix: “죄송합니다 / 대신 / 다시” → problem + compensation clue.
문장 의도를 먼저 파악하면 보기에서 같은 의도 유형을 고르면 됩니다.
4) 30-Second Routine (Before the Audio)
Scan choices → predict answer type (time / place / purpose / intent) → circle likely keywords → listen for pivot (contrast / final number / decision).
보기 훑기 → 정답 유형 예측 → 키워드 동그라미 → 반전/최종 정답인지 확인.
5) Mini Practice (2 items)
Q1 (purpose): The man says, “원래 오늘 문을 닫으려 했는데, 그래도 손님이 많아서 8시까지 더 하겠습니다.” What is the announcement’s purpose?
- A) To apologize
- B) To extend hours ✔️
- C) To recruit
- D) To cancel
Q2 (time): “모레는 일정이 있어서, 회의는 다음 주 수요일로 미뤄요.” When is the meeting?
- A) This Wednesday
- B) Tomorrow
- C) The Wednesday of next week ✔️
- D) Friday
👩🏫 Teacher’s Tips
- Train “pivot hearing.” Play dialogs and jump only to sentences with contrast markers; write the final decision in one line. 반전 신호(하지만/그래도 등)만 노려 듣고, 최종 결정 한 줄만 적어보세요.
- Symbol notes, not sentences. Use 🕒/₩/#/📍. Writing full sentences is too slow. 문장 대신 기호로 메모하세요. 속도가 관건입니다.
- Speed ladders. Practice the same clip at 1.0× → 1.25× → back to 1.0× so normal speed feels easier. 속도 배속 훈련을 하면 보통 속도가 더 편해집니다.
- Dictation sprints (듣고 쓰기) — 3–5 minutes
- Pick a 20–40s clip (drama line, variety banter, or news sentence).
- Listen 2–3× and write exactly what you hear (punctuation optional).
- Check with subtitles/script, circle errors, and rewrite cleanly.
- Shadow the corrected lines 2–3×, then speak without looking.
- Save useful chunks (e.g., “지금은 좀…”, “괜찮으시면…”) to your vocab deck.
- TV & drama dialog capture — build a “daily life” phrase bank
- News mimic for rhythm — 1 sentence → 3 sentences
- About Korean intonation & articulation
드라마/예능/뉴스 20–40초를 골라 받아쓰기 → 자막과 대조 → 수정 → 섀도잉 → 유용한 표현을 덱에 저장하세요.
좋아하는 드라마나 예능을 보며 일상 표현(부탁/거절/약속/감사)을 그대로 받아 적고, 다음날 1분 복습 스피킹으로 입에 붙입니다.
뉴스 멘트를 한 문장씩 따라 하며 호흡·리듬·강세를 맞춰 보세요. 1문장 → 3문장으로 늘리면 문장 끝 억양과 템포가 안정됩니다.
한국어는 영어보다 억양 범위가 좁고, 말할 때 입을 크게 벌리지 않는 경향이 있어 초반에는 듣기 난도가 높게 느껴질 수 있습니다. 하지만 뉴스·드라마·대화의 리듬과 속도에 익숙해질수록 표준어 발음이 더 또렷하게 들립니다. 처음엔 천천히(0.9×) → 곧바로 정상 속도(1.0×)로 돌아오는 방식으로 적응하세요.
